Translation Traineeships at the European Parliament Location: Luxembourg DL: 15 November 2011

Paid traineeships are awarded solely to graduates of universities or equivalent institutions. Their purpose is to enable trainees to supplement the knowledge which they acquired during their studies and to familiarise themselves with the activities of the European Union and, in particular, the European Parliament.

Applicants for a paid translation traineeship must:
be nationals of a Member State of the European Union or of a candidate country (Croatia, Iceland, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro or Turkey);
be aged 18 or over on the traineeship starting date;
not have been awarded any other paid traineeship, or have been in paid employment for more than four consecutive weeks, with a European institution or a Member or political group of the European Parliament;
have obtained, before the deadline for the submission of applications, a university degree after a course of study of at least three years' duration;
have perfect knowledge of one of the official languages of the European Union or of the official language of an applicant country and thorough knowledge of two other official languages of the European Union.

We advise you not to wait until the last day to apply, to prevent the system from becoming overloaded because there are a large number of applications.

Translation traineeships are assigned to Luxembourg.

For guidance, in 2011 the scholarship amounted to EUR 1 213.55 a month.

Please note the conditions for admission. If you are preselected, the following will be requested as supporting documents:
the application form, duly completed and signed,
a copy of your passport or identity card,
copies of your diplomas and certificates,
and a copy of your university marks (results), if you have them.

It is not necessary to send these supporting documents at this stage. The documents will only be requested if you pass the preselection stage.

If you are preselected for a traineeship, your application will be deemed valid only if you provide the full set of documents mentioned above.

If you fulfil the conditions for admission, please complete the online application form.

Please note that if you leave your application form inactive for 30 minutes, the data you have entered will be lost. We therefore advise you to read carefully the Internal Rules Governing Translation Traineeships before filling in the application form.

The application cannot be changed online and is completed and submitted in a single operation. A printed copy of the sample form is available to help you prepare your application before you submit it online.

Administrative Assistant at the International Association of Public Transport Location: Brussels

To provide organisational and administrative support to the Knowledge and Membership Services Department (training programme)
Primary responsibilities will include:
Your role will be to assist the manager in charge of trainings with all logistical, organisational and administrative tasks, a.o:

  • Logistical support in organizing training sessions (promotion, invitations, programmes, contact with suppliers, local hosts, speakers, participants etc)
  • Administrative support and follow-up for training sessions (registrations of participants, invoices, etc)
  • Day-to-day management of agenda
  • Written correspondence (letters, presentations, etc)
  • Planning and organisation of meetings and business trips
  • Active role in provision of UITP services towards its members
Ideal candidate will have the following profile:

  • Excellent knowledge of English (oral and written) and French. Spanish an asset.
  • Good computer skills (MS office/ Internet)
  • Good communication skills
  • Rigorous and with eye for details
  • Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Problem-solving attitude and sense of initiative
  • Ability to work autonomously and to manage priorities

MA in Advanced European and International Studies, Nice/Berlin/Istanbul/Rome‏

The Institut européen des hautes études internationals (IEHEI), an
international teaching and research institute in Nice, invites
graduate students to apply for its Master programme 2011/12. The
“Master in Advanced European and International Studies” (MAEIS) offers
an overarching, encompassing vision of the political, social,
economic, and cultural problems of today´s modern world. The courses
are taught by renowned academics from various European countries, as
well as experts from research institutions and practitioners from
international organisations. They offer a multi-faceted view on Europe
and give students the opportunity to discuss achievements and problems
of Europe and to develop ways to handle them. Since 1964 the IEHEI has
graduated over 5000 students coming from more than 80 different
countries.
One programme – two branches
The Master programme comprises three terms and is subdivided into two
branches:
- The trilingual branch (teaching languages are English, French, and
German) includes trimesters in Nice and Berlin, as well as a one week
stay at our partner university in Rostock and a two week seminar at
our partner university in Rome.
- The anglophone branch includes trimesters in Istanbul, Nice and
Berlin.
Subject Areas: European Integration, International Relations, Economy
and Globalisation, Federalism and Governance.
Both branches organise a study trip to the European and international
organisations in Geneva, Strasbourg and Brussels
Deadline for applications: 30 June 2011.
The courses take place from October 2011 to July 2012. A limited
number of scholarship funds are awarded to particularly qualified
candidates to cover parts of the costs of their studies and/or their
accommodation.

Special Projects Intern - EU Policy - Internship

This Special Projects intern will focus on policy in the European Union, and will play an integral role in building and supporting the scientific foundation that provides the cornerstone of IFAW’s Companion Animal Program. The intern will assist with undertaking a comparative study of EU legislation.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities

Research and produce a report into the standard of companion animal legislation and care in several countries within the EU.

The Special Projects Intern shall specifically:
  • Conduct research into legislation on dogs and cats in a number of EU Member States
  • Arrange and conduct interviews with politicians, civil servants and NGOs throughout Europe on issues pertaining to companion animals, preferably in the country’s native language.
General duties:
  • Assist EU Political Officer with research on an ad hoc basis
  • Monitoring EU institutional and national websites for relevant information
  • Updating databases and general office administrative support.
Job Requirements
  • A strong commitment to animal welfare.
  • A recent graduate or someone in the process of completing a degree from an accredited university with a preferable focus on policy, European institutions or law. 
  • Superior attention to detail and ability to multi-task, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • An ability to commit to 20-40 hours per week for a minimum of 3 months. Commitments of greater duration are welcome.
The position will require travel within Europe to complete the research. As such the following is also required:
  • The ability to speak English and at least one other European language fluently. Multiple fluency is preferred, including eastern European languages.
  • A valid passport from an EU member state or a valid Schengen visa.
Please note: this position is unpaid and interns are responsible for securing their own housing and transportation. IFAW will cover all travel expenses related directly to IFAW projects.
This Special Projects Intern may be based in the Netherlands or Brussels.
