Internship Programme at Council of the Baltic Sea States Location: Stockholm - Sweden DL: 1 August 2011


The CBSS Secretariat announces three internship positions for the autumn 2011.


The first position will be with the Media and Communication team. Fluency in German and educational background or work experience in communication is required. Deadline for all applications 1st of August.

The second position will be to work with the Expert Group on Maritime Policy and other core expert functions under the supervision of the Head of the Internship Programme.

The third position will be to support the Northern Dimension Partnership in Public Health and Social Well-Being. Russian language is seen as an asset.

- Time: from early September until mid-December (can be shorter a bit, if so preferred by the selected intern);
- Place: NDPHS Secretariat hosted by the CBSS Secretariat (NB. as the host, the latter will be responsible for the paper-work, administrative matters, etc. related to the internship) (http://www.ndphs.org/?secretariat);
- Responsibilities: assist in preparation of NDPHS meetings (among them the forthcoming CSR meeting and ministerial-level Partnership Annual Conference and its side-event; cf. http://www.ndphs.org/?mtgs;4); assist in drafting of meeting documents (incl. the NDPHS Annual Progress Report for 2011 (http://www.ndphs.org/?about_ndphs#Past_activities and the NDPHS Work Plan for 2012 (http://www.ndphs.org/?about_ndphs#Annual_Work_Plan)); support in the maintenance of the NDPHS Database (http://www.ndphs.org/?database); assist in drafting the NDPHS e-Newsletter (http://www.ndphs.org/?e-newsletter) and e-news (http://www.ndphs.org/?e-news);

ONLY Member State nationals are eligible for the internship scholarship award of 8000 SEK per month.


The CBSS Secretariat offers internship opportunities to new university graduates with an academic background in a field related to the CBSS activities (i.a. political or social sciences, economics or international law, anthropology, cultural studies, gender studies, sustainable development, public health & social policy and geography).
A specific interest in policies and cooperation in the Baltic Sea Region is required.
The CBSS internship programme is not connected with employment opportunities.

1. Number and lengths of internship periods

In 2011 there will be two internship periods of six months and four months (January to June and September to December).

2. Financial, Administrative and Insurance conditions

Travel and living costs in Stockholm must be met by the interns. Applicants may apply for a scholarship from the Secretariat by using the Scholarship application form to be sent together with the Internship application.

Interns that do not have a resident status in Sweden must make sure that they fulfill all the legal requirements and are in the possession of a relevant residence permit and / or visa upon arrival as specified by Swedish law pertaining to foreigners.

Interns are required to check with the relevant authorities as to what is needed beforehand.
The documents need to be given to the administration upon arrival.
Interns must also ensure they have the appropriate insurance cover during their stay in Stockholm.

Interns will be placed under the responsibility of a supervisor. They will need to respect the working hours, organisation and general rules of the CBSS Secretariat. They will also need to respect the confidentiality of the information brought to their attention during their internship within the CBSS.

3. General requirements

The internships offered by the CBSS Secretariat are intended for young university graduates who meet the following requirements:

- University degree in a field related to the CBSS activities

- Excellent knowledge of English and the ability to draft and communicate actively in this language

- Very good computer skills

- A sense of organisation, initiative and responsibility

- The ability to work in an international environment

4. Application procedure

Applications in English including a detailed curriculum vitae and a motivation letter with a brief description of the specific subjects the candidate would want to work on, should be sent by e-mail to the following address: internship@cbss.org by 31 October for internships between 1 January and 30 June and by 1 August for internships between 1 Sept and 31 December.
The decision will be made right after these deadlines and the applicants informed in due time.
