The Future City Leaders Initiative (more information: http://www.iclei.org/futurecityleaders) offers a capacity building program for selected young Mayors and Council members to provide them with access to information on urban sustainability in a global context, to international partner organizations of ICLEI and to enable them to start and maintain sustainability initiatives within their cities and towns in a global context.
The program is based on the following elements:
- Networking among the participating young leaders
- Facilitated interactions with partners from science, business, NGOs and international organizations
- Personal & professional capacity building of the individual young leader
The initiative is currently preparing its first 2 year program cycle and will soon select the first group of participants. Therefore, the emphasis of the initiative and the intern’s tasks is on the following:
- Support the fundraising for the initiative and help establishing further contacts with potential funders, supporters and partners of the initiative;
- Support the further design and set-up of the 2 year participants’ program cycle, including set-up and preparation of the annual “Sustainability Academy”;
- Set-up of online and other communication structures among the young leaders;
- Maintenance of the website; help with its further development;
- Production of information material (also for participants) and announcements about the initiative, also via online tools (Social Media), and support of the dissemination of the material;
- University Degree in a relevant subject such as Urban Geography, Political Science, Public Administration, Town & Regional Planning, Urban Planning & Management, Communication, Marketing or similar;
- Experience or familiarity in the areas of mobilizing city/town councils, cities and local governments, urban planning & management, environmental sustainability or similar;
- Proficiency in oral and written English; command of German would be of advantage
- Proficiency in office and presentation software; Ideally experience with web content management (preferably Typo 3) and in setting-up and maintaining Social Media tools
- Enthusiasm, a pro-active attitude and an organized working style with eye for detail;
- Editing skills, creativity and very good visual presentation skills.
- The internship position is available from August 2011 at the ICLEI World Secretariat in Bonn, Germany.
- The duration will be six months. The internship is within ICLEI’s international Capacity Center, the intern reports to the Future City Leaders Initiative Project Officer;
- ICLEI offers interns a remuneration of Euro 550 after tax and social insurance fees;
- Working hours: 40h per week; 2 days of paid leave per month;
- Working language: English;
- Non-EU citizens are also welcome to apply provided they have the possibility of being granted an EU work permit prior to the start of the internship.
