ESMU, the European Centre for the Strategic Management of Universities (www.esmu.be) is a dynamic Brussels-based international association which supports European universities with their strategic developments through conferences, seminars, projects and training programmes.
In a consortium led by large consulting companies and a large Foundation we have won framework contracts for the provision of consultancy services and studies to the European Commission in all fields of education and training.
We are looking for a research associate to coordinate the work of experts‘ teams and the delivery of services to the European Commission. This is a new full time position for an initial six-month renewable period. However, a part-time position, possibly combined with a PhD may be envisaged.
Applicants should have: Excellent knowledge of European policies in all fields of education and training (EU2020, E&T2020, Bologna Process, Copenhagen Process, Innovation Europe), of European programmes in education and training and various EU instruments to promote the further developments of education and training in Europe and internationally Thorough understanding of the workings of the European Commission and of its various agencies (CEDEFOF, ETF, Executive Agency Education and Culture, etc...); thorough knowledge of the work of international organisations in higher education (OECD, UNESCO) A degree preferably in political sciences, public administration or education sciences Strong analytical skills and the ability to handle large amounts of information; Good knowledge of statistical tools and experience with evaluation and assessment methodologies Excellent reporting and linguistic skills A demonstrated track record of similar work at European level and EU project experience Excellent team player and the ability to work independently; strong organisational skills Proactive, flexible, and with a problem solving attitude; Highly accurate Strong IT skills
The successful candidate will be reporting to the Secretary-General and work closely with the senior experts who will lead each of the studies to be delivered.
Tasks will include the following: Writing bids for the European Commission in response to Call for Tenders under the above-mentioned framework contract (methodology, approach, timetable, composition of expert teams, budget) Working on conceptual design for studies to be delivered Collecting and analysing data; database management Producing comparative research, policy analysis (review of national policies) and impact assessment exercises Producing reports based on the work of experts’ teams
