Ad hoc internship programme for the War Crimes Justice Project

Background:
The United Nations interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute
(UNICRI), together with the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and
Human Rights (OSCE-ODIHR) and the International Criminal Tribunal for the
former Yugoslavia (ICTY) is committed to a joint project aimed at enhancing
the capacity of judiciaries in South-Eastern Europe to process war crimes
trials in an effective and fair manner, consistent with the highest
international standards of due process. Implementation of the 18-month
project began in May 2010. Within the framework of the War Crimes Justice
Project, UNICRI will be responsible for the realization of two components:


· A Manual on Defence Counsel Issues, which is being realized in
cooperation with the Association of Defence Counsel practicing before the
ICTY (ADC-ICTY)

· A Training and e-learning Portal, an on-line tool for legal
practitioners and judicial training institutions with several components,
such as an e-learning course on international humanitarian law, a database
on training activities organized in the past years in the countries of the
former Yugoslavia etc.

*Responsibilities:
Within the framework of the project “Supporting the Transfer of Knowledge
and Materials of War Crimes Cases from the ICTY to National Jurisdictions”,
the incumbent, under the supervision of the Programme Coordinator, will
perform the following tasks:

· Assist in the elaboration of the Training and e-learning Portal, in
particular by analyzing relevant documents in English and in B/C/S languages
for their inclusion in the Databases that form part of the Portal;

· Carry out research on international criminal law-related topics;

· Translate relevant documents (letters, project-related
documentation) from/into B/C/S;

· Perform other duties upon request.

Required qualifications*

· First level university degree in Law;

· Professional fluency in English language;

· B/C/S mother tongue or equivalent level;

· Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, email, and internet)
are required.

· Previous experience in court litigation and law practice in
criminal law desirable;
OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME*
Duty station*: UNICRI Headquarters, Turin, Italy
Duration*: 3 months (with possibility of extension up to a maximum of 6
months).

expenses connected with the internship will have to be borne by the intern
or sponsoring institution. It is strongly suggested that you contact
