European Central Bank Traineeship in Frankfurt

 European Central Bank Traineeship in Frankfurt
The Directorate General Administration of the European Central Bank (ECB) is seeking applications from recent graduates or students who are close to completing their studies for traineeships in its Premises Division for a period of at least six months.
The Premises Division is responsible for providing and maintaining the ECB’s premises, technical facilities and related services. It comprises two sections, the Corporate Real Estate Management Section and the Technical Facility Management Section.
The ECB is ISO 14001 certified and is listed in the European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) register. The Premises Division also provides the ECB with expertise in the field of environmental management. The Environmental Management Officer monitors and coordinates all related activities.
Successful applicants will be involved in tasks relating to the division’s environmental management system (EMS) and will also gain experience of working in a central banking environment.
They will be expected to work closely with the Environmental Management Officer in maintaining the EMS and to contribute to internal communication activities. Furthermore, they will provide support and assistance in working towards specific business objectives, as well as in the management of project-related tasks.
In addition, trainees may be assigned related administrative and auxiliary tasks, such as the collection of baseline data or the evaluation of relevant information for presentation to management.
Trainees will be assigned a supervisor, but will be expected to work mainly on their own initiative and in a largely autonomous manner. They will have access to the ECB library, as well as to any computing and office facilities necessary for the successful completion of the tasks which they are assigned.

Qualifications and experience

  • The traineeships are aimed at students who have just finished, or are close to completing, studies in business administration and/or engineering (with a specialisation in environmental and/or sustainability management) or who have a proven ability to perform the tasks required (i.e. who have studied relevant aspects of management and engineering).
  • Applicants should have a very good command of English with proven drafting ability. A working knowledge of German would also be an advantage, since German law and local regulations on waste management and disposal are particularly relevant.
  • A sound knowledge of MS Office (e.g. Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is mandatory.
  • Experience gained during other traineeships, as well as a sound knowledge of relevant standards and regulations (e.g. ISO 14001, EMAS), would be an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and in a multicultural environment;
  • General interest in corporate environmental management and central banking activities;
  • Self-motivation and a proactive work style.

Behaviour Competences

The successful candidate will have the following behavioural competencies:
  • shows commitment towards achieving organisational goals and pursues projects with energy and drive;
  • works comfortably without close supervision, delivering results within tight time frames, but knowing when to involve others.

Duration of contract / Closing date

The traineeships will initially be for a period of six months and may be extended for further six months, depending on the tasks and/or projects assigned to the trainees.
Closing date for applications:  25 March 2011
