CBM Summer School 2011

The 2011 Summer School has been conceived as a short-term specialization course, aiming to give an overview of ageing, one of the most complex biological processes and major challenge for our societies. Ageing and main related diseases will be presented considering molecular, cellular and clinical perspectives.

The programme is structured over three days and features several high-level seminars given by international scientists, from research institutions and private companies, divided in four main sessions:

• Dietary versus genetic human models of longevity
• Cell processes and ageing
• Molecular mechanisms of ageing
• Nutrigenomics, nutrigenetics and health

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Graduates, PhD students and researchers working in the field of molecular medicine, genetics, nutrition, as well as oncology, inflammation, neurodegenerative and cardiovascular disorders.
Registration for and attendance of the Summer School is free of charge, subject to availability. The official language of the school is English.

BACKGROUND

Since 2005 CBM has been organizing Summer Schools in Trieste with the support of AREA Science Park and the Central European Initiative (CEI). The focus of this year follows the new European strategy "Europe 2020" and especially the first Innovation Union's pilot initiative, the "Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing".

The event is organized within the framework of NutriHeart ("Cardiovascular diseases: from genetic and environmental risk factors to prevention with innovative nutritional compounds"), an R&D partnership of 11 regional research institutions, companies and science parks cofunded by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and by the European Regional Development Fund under the Regional Operational Programme 2007-2013.

This year the School is also supported by GlaxoSmithKline spa and Assicurazioni Generali spa.
