PhD Positions in the Faculty of Science at Utrecht University in Netherlands

The PhD Researcher will participate in the STW-funded Danone Partnership program: “Biomarkers in breast milk for the management of allergic disease development in infants”. This research program focuses on how breast milk modulates the infant’s immune system. In particular the origin, composition and function of exosomes (nano-sized cell-derived membrane vesicles) in breast milk will be studied. The secretion, composition and targets of exosomes are tightly regulated, which has sparked the idea that exosomes are tailor-made messengers for intercellular communication.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, communicative and driven researcher with interest in cellular immunology. PhD candidates should have a MSc Degree in (bio) medical/pharmaceutical sciences and practical experience in immunology or cell biology. Candidates should preferably have/or be willing to obtain a certificate for conducting animal experiments.
Scholarship Application Deadline: before 27 May 2011
